Senators...the House has managed to vote through an end to Don't Ask Don't Tell. Will you follow their lead?
It's a bit sad that such an injustice has been allowed to remain in effect for so long. DADT has been in effect since 1993. And now 17 years later, there's only one more stop before it is repealed.
I cannot imagine what this type of progress feels like to the people most closely impacted by its outcome. I cannot imagine having to hide or lie about who I am in order to keep a job. The military is not like any other establishment. It takes a certain dedication to choose the military. To choose to give up your life for your country. Not everyone has the fortitude to choose such a path in life. To know that gays and lesbians made the choice to do it knowing full well that they cannot be themselves or else they risk losing what they love...that adds another dimension to their choice.
Seems simple...if they choose to risk their lives for us, least we could do is treat them equally.

Jim Inhofe and Lisa Murkowski - Shame!
So let me get this straight...Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK) have blocked bills on the Senate floor that would raise / remove a cap on the financial liability of an oil company in the event of a spill.
Currently the cap is a paltry $75 million dollars...yes, million, not billion. Sure 20 plus years ago, $75 million looked like a lot of money, but now, it doesn't even begin to cover the damage that is happening from the Deep-water Horizon oil spill.
Their reason for blocking the bill? They say that it would negatively impact any small company that wants to drill but that couldn't cover the cost in case of a spill. Yes, that's right. They say removing or raising the cap wouldn't allow small companies, that couldn't afford the clean up, to start drilling.
Now I work on logic...and this argument is not only illogical, it's horseshit! If you can't afford to clean up your mess, you don't get to have a permit for your business. Clear as can be!
There should be regulation of these oil companies that are drilling in our oceans. Just like a bank cannot operate if they don't have enough capital on hand, then an oil company shouldn't be allowed to operate if they don't have the funds to clean up the mess they make when they spill oil, and they will spill oil, history has proven this fact!
Senator Inhofe, I expected nothing less from you. You are consistent in your crazy nonsense in the senate. (re: Abu Ghraib, ridiculous policy support for Israel, and NONSENSE when it comes to the environment!) To be disappointed in your actions in the Senate these days does nothing.
However...Senator Murkowski...you should hang your head in shame...you're from ALASKA! Have you no memory? Does the name Exxon mean anything to you? Anything to your constituents? Regardless of your political policies, you should be at the front of line, touting your experience with this happening in your state and doing everything you can to make sure that if something like this happens in the future it's going to be covered by the people who did the spilling. You know why? Because it's GOING to happen again.
You both have serious issues! I can only hope that the residents of your respective states are paying attention to what you're trying to do with this topic. It's very disturbing.

Favorites...
I love hearing my girl talk to herself while she is taking a bath. It cracks me up to hear the whole world she is in. It makes me happy to know that she has quite an imagination. I once thought that she might not have once since that was not something I was ever really good with. Glad to know she is turning out better than I was.

It's been a while...
Haven't blogged since November...I have been a bit busy. I have been busting my ass at the gym 4 days a week since January. Sadly I have only lost 8 lbs. BUT...I am on a mission to sky dive this year so I will have to lose 30lbs to make sure I don't have to pay extra. ..There's just something about jumping out of a perfectly good plane!!

So it happened...
President Barack Obama. It has a lovely ring to it doesn't it? Tuesday November 4Th, 2008 was a day for the history books. I hope that the apparent change that has just swept through the United States will be followed up with actual, physical, serious change in this country.
The United States is a great, wonderful and promising nation, however with all of those attributes in place, it really doesn't do much good if the citizens of The United States don't work towards living up to those ideals. Having made some outstanding strides in history I believe the country on the whole has become complacent. Resting on our laurels. That is how we got into the situation we find ourselves in at this moment in time.
With that said, it was obviously destined to bring us to where we are today. It laid the foundation for the history that was made on November 4th. There was a convergence of factors that all hit on that one day. In one day the American voter voiced their opinion and realized a certain 'Dream' that was once voiced by Dr. King. Remember? He had a dream, that one day his 4 children would live in a world where they were judged on the content of their character and not on the color of their skin. That is what happened on Tuesday. While the initial reaction from around the world was that America finally elected the first African-American President, everyone knows, however, that Barack Obama also has substance. He is not just an African-American. He is highly intelligent, thoughtful and methodical in his decision making process and overall more concerned with getting things done and not really concerned with only advancing the democratic agenda. I can appreciate that his agenda is to advance the United States into a better place.
There is a lot of pressure on President-elect Obama's shoulders. At this moment in time, our greatest contribution to his transition period and subsequent '100 days', is patience. There is no possible way with all of the crap that the soon to be former President has left him, that President-elect Obama can get everything that needs to be done, done all at once. We need to be patient. We need to be understanding. We need to ensure that when our President calls on us to help in the change process, that we help. This is OUR country. The history that was made on Tuesday was OUR history. We are the only ones responsible for our future. It is the least we can do...

"Real America"
Turns out unless you live in a small town and unless you believe in the conservative way of life, then according to Sarah Palin you are not "Pro-America". Yeah that's right, you have to fit into a mold of an exclusive conservative mind set in order to be considered a Real American. Who knew?
Sounds pretty funny coming from someone who sided pretty heavily with the Alaskan Independence Party, who's founder Joe Vogler who once said "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." So...using Sarah Palin and John McCain's ruler for guilt by association, Sarah Palin obviously believes that she is not an American and she has no use for America or her damned institutions. Would one of those "institutions" be the White House?
I am with Colin Powell in his description of the Republican Party.. " the approach of the Republican Party has become narrower and narrower... I look at these kind of approaches and they trouble me."
I hope that America, either the real parts of America or the fake parts, get educated with 2 weeks to go in this campaign and make their vote count on November 4.

Would you have the courage?
What if you held the job that Thomas Dart has? Name not familiar? I would assume not. Thomas Dart is the Sheriff in Cook County, Illinois. He has the unfortunate task of evicting people from their homes. Why unfortunate you ask? Because the people he was being told to evict were renters, these people PAID their rent on time all the time... The reason for eviction is because the OWNER of the building they are renting was not paying their mortgage. Seems unfair right?
Well would you have enough courage to put a stop to this unfair action if it was your job? Sheriff Thomas Dart of Cook County, Illinois DOES have the courage. He is being couragous in standing up to the banks requesting the eviction because these banks haven't done their due diligence with these eviction requests. They don't know who lives at these locations, the only see a piece of paper cross their desk.
If only we all had the courage displayed by Sheriff Thomas Dart, this world would be a better place. When Senator Barack Obama becomes President Barack Obama he should stock his cabinet with people just like Sheriff Thomas Dart!

Sarah Palin? Who the hell is that?
So John McCain thinks that selecting a female will allow him to sweep to the White House in November? Yeah...umm I am going with No.
Sarah Palin is barely known in the US. I can guarantee she is not known outside the US. While that is probably not the reason she was selected, I am not sure that this will help John McCain. I certainly don't think that she will be able to get any Hillary Clinton supporters over to McCain's side. She is pro-life and pro-gun. Not really strong Democratic beliefs.

Why Religion is Bad...
Why is it, that if you believe in "God" then your opinions and views are much more important than those who do not believe?
Why is it that you have to believe in "God" in order to have morality? The definition of morality is this: Morality means a code of conduct held to be authoritative in matters of right and wrong. Morals are created by and define society, philosophy, religion, or individual conscience. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morality) Notice in the definition that it does not hold morality as being strictly based in religious beliefs. I do not believe in the existence of "God", however I do have a strong sense of morality and ethics. I base my morals in common sense. To me it is obvious that murder is wrong, I don't have to base my conclusion on a "higher power". I have the consciousness and common sense to come to that conclusion myself. I wasn't raised with religion either, so you can't deduce that the morality I have now comes from a religious base from childhood. Most of my morality and education comes from being given taught common sense.
I credit a lot of my common sense as coming from my mom, Oprah, the TV show Growing Pains and watching other people make mistakes. I have the ability to watch other people make mistakes and know that I don't want to have the same outcome. I have never had that glossy, fair tale in my mind of maybe it will be different if I do it. That is not to say that I never try anything on my own, because I do, I just watch for mistakes that could happen in the future, I pay attention to the red flags in my mind, my heart. I don't go against the internal voice I have telling me not to do something. And no that voice is not "God", that voice is my own saying, you know what I have seen this situation before, or I see what is on the horizon and then I take responsibility for that and move in a different direction. No religion needed whatsoever!
So now I ask again, Why is it, that if you believe in "God" then your opinions and views are much more important than those who do not believe? Why are politicians forced to conform to the religious ideals that are set forth by the Evangelical Christians. Is it not a better thing in this country to not have a leader who is beholden to one group or another? Don't people get all bent out of shape when there are lobbyists in Washington DC trying to get their message heard by politicians? Don't those lobbyists represent a group of people who want their voice heard, whether it is a large company or a fringe group? What makes a lobbyist any different from the Evangelical Christian groups?
I have a real issue with the meeting of the candidates tonight. They are attending a 2 hour forum at a church in California in order to discuss religion and values. Can a person NOT have values without religion? Are the problems we have in the world today based on a religious belief? No. They are all encompassing problems that are spread over those with religion and those with no religion.
Stop trying to force your opinions, values and self announced moral authority on those of us who don't share your opinions, values and self announced moral authority. I for one am doing gloriously without your nonsense.

It's been a while...
So it has been a while since I last posted and I was so graciously reminded of that by someone very dear to me.
The topic I am on now...friends. I have a very dear male best friend. Never have I had a male best friend who completely understands me. He gets who I am and how I work and what pushes my buttons and he will never push the buttons himself. He is extremely generous with his time and patience with me. I savor every minute I am lucky to have with him.
That's it for tonight...Anyone else have a friend like mine?

I am a democrat....however....
I do not appreciate the tactics being used by Hillary Clinton while she is grasping to win in Ohio and Texas. Its as though, she smells even the slightest wiff of something, no matter what it is and she tries to exploit it for all that it will get her... she is using tactics right out of the republican manual.
I will be looking forward to the election tomorrow in Ohio and Texas to see if Hillary will finally exit gracefully.
There is no possible way that Hillary Clinton can think that just because she was the wife of a former president, that she has more experience than Senator Obama... They are relatively equal.

So the debates continue...
Normally I wouldn't be watching presidential debates. I vote usually by party lines. I consider myself a democrat and I vote the like...
Back in 2000, I voted democrat of course... I really wasn't into the election that year, I voted party lines, but Al Gore didn't really move me, no real inspiration. I didn't see him as having very much charisma. Then September 11Th happened and for a split second I was sort of glad to have George Bush in the office. Of course I am sure most people felt that, but I am also sure that whoever would have been in office would have had the same reaction from the American people. With that said, it wasn't too long after September 11Th that things started changing, perceptions were changing. I think that September 11Th allowed George Bush and his administration to feel like he had a blank check to get whatever he wanted. I think that George Bush has abused the office of the President of the United States. He has made this country less safe, in his lack of concern in the right areas (North Korea, Afghanistan etc) and his over zealous charge in the wrong areas (Iraq, Warrant less Wiretapping, Scooter Libby pardon etc).
In this current election season, I am inspired, energized and ready for change. The reason? Senator Barrack Obama! He is fantastic, he is a motivator, a spectacular orator, he is amazing! I think the main difference between him and Senator Clinton is this, Senator Clinton is divisive whereas Senator Obama is all about unity. Senator Clinton loves to talk about her 35 years of experience, but with that comes baggage. There are a lot of people who didn't like the Clinton years and she is part of the reason for that. Senator Obama on the other hand doesn't have the same sort of baggage. He is not one to shy away from crossing the aisles to work with Republicans, and he has always been forthcoming about that fact. Now staunch Democrats would say, oh no your goal should be All Democrats that is how you get things done... however that is not reality. There will never be All Democrats... it should be a major requirement to being president that you are willing and that you actively work on crossing party lines and working together. That is the reason I believe Barrack Obama will be the next President of the United States.
He has my vote!

Obama vs. McCain....
So I am watching the primary results tonight and one thing is becoming absolutely clear. John McCain is a real snore....
Normally when the candidates are speaking after winning the primary/caucus they are up beat, positive, motivated and they sound like they are ready to take on the world!
Barack Obama gave a phenomenal speech tonight after his victories today... the crowd was insane, he was fired up, motivated and just full of hope and positivity... then MSNBC cut to the victory speech from John McCain, who was clearly reading his speech from a teleprompter, he was muted, dull, boring, just quite passive... Quite a stark contrast here....
Even the commentators made note of the differences...
Barack is very inspiring...this election is going to be quite a magnificent time in our country!!

Presidential Race
Isn't it a great day?? Think back in time, based on the history we have had here in the United States, could it be conceivable for there to be a black president? a female president? And yet it is extremely likely that there would be one soon. These are amazing times...I am thankful that I am able to see history being made, that I am able to contribute to history.

Ann Coulter....Someone please tell her to shut up!
Can we talk about why Ann Coulter is satan? I am afraid to say, the mere mention of Ann Coulter's name, the sound of her warbling voice, the words she uses, the vile she spews, makes me ashamed that I am a woman.
I feel the most prominent difference between a man and a woman is that a woman is able to show emotion, compassion and empathy for people. Ann Coulter is the complete opposite of that. I have never in my life seen and heard a woman with less compassion for people, a woman who shows less emotion for people, and a woman who has no empathy for humans. On top of Republicans being closed off, religious nuts, she adds a right wing, ultra conservative hatred for people. She is vile, she speaks with such animosity towards anyone that doesn't tow her same ultra conservative, bible thumping, anti human views in life.
The only thing that is making this any better...Knowing that the Democrats will take back the White House and do their very best to eliminate the "power" of the far right, religous nut jobs!
